And because everyone's definition of an active life is different, our communities and services are designed to support older adults wherever they are on their journey.
Active Aging in Our Retirement Communities
Our retirement communities -- Franke at Seaside, the Heritage at Lowman, Rice Estate, RoseCrest and Trinity on Laurens provide opportunities for residents to remain engaged in the activities and experiences they enjoy while discovering new interests along the way.
From fitness and wellness programs to social gatherings, educational opportunities, creative activities, outings and community events, residents have countless ways to stay active—physically, socially, intellectually and spiritually.
Sometimes active aging means participating in a fitness class or walking club. Other times, it may mean joining friends for a game, attending a concert, learning something new, volunteering, enjoying a favorite hobby or simply sharing a meal with neighbors.
The goal isn't to keep doing everything exactly as we did when we were younger. It's to continue doing the things that bring joy, purpose and connection.
Supporting Independence at Home
Some older adults choose active aging in the home they know and love.
That's where BeWell Home Services, our nonprofit, faith-based non-medical home care service, can make a difference.
Through personalized support, companionship and assistance with everyday tasks, BeWell Home Services helps older adults maintain their routines and remain connected to the people, places and activities that matter most to them.
Sometimes having a little help with daily responsibilities can make it easier to spend more time doing what you enjoy—whether that's visiting with family, participating in community activities, pursuing a hobby or simply maintaining your independence.
Active Aging Through Every Season of Life
Active aging also means recognizing that our abilities and needs can change over time.
For individuals receiving care through Lutheran Hospice, the focus may shift from traditional measures of activity to comfort, dignity, connection and quality of life. Hospice care supports individuals and families when a cure is no longer the goal, helping people make the most of the time they have.
That might mean enjoying a favorite meal, listening to music, spending time with family, participating in a meaningful tradition or simply being comfortable in familiar surroundings.
Active aging is not defined by how many steps someone takes or how many activities they attend. It is about having the support and opportunity to live as fully as possible—at every stage and according to each person's wishes.
A Continuum of Support for Living Well
Lutheran Homes of South Carolina offers a continuum of services designed to support older adults and their families through the many seasons of life.
Our retirement communities create opportunities for connection, wellness and purpose. BeWell Home Services provides personalized non-medical support for people who want to remain independent at home. Lutheran Hospice provides compassionate care focused on comfort, dignity and quality of life.
Together, these services reflect an important part of our mission: helping older adults live well, remain connected and experience the possibilities of every stage of life.
This Active Aging Week—and every week—we celebrate the people who continue to learn, grow, contribute, connect and make a difference in their families and communities.
Because active aging isn't about a number. It's about living life with purpose, possibility and meaning.
